Tonight would have been our club’s biggest event of the year, Dinner and Dance. This means that by 10 o’clock we might have managed to present our annual senior awards. Tomorrow the junior and mini presentations would have taken place in the same marquee. I know some of you, undeterred, are having your own mini event anyway and Chris Massey tells me that he Sal and Luke are already arguing about who is going to sit where. The D&D is now an event to look forward in 2021 to when things have returned to some kind of normal, but there is no reason why we should make our awards. There is every possibility that the mini and junior sections may be able to have some sort of gathering (or age group gatherings) later in the summer and we will let ourselves be guided by what happens with the schools before committing to anything. Dates will be advised via our website and social media once things are clearer. It is difficult however, to envisage the seniors being able to have a presentation event any time soon, in which case we will announce the annual winners on our web site and social media groups. The AGM was due to be held on Friday 15 May 2020. This will be postponed, and we will wait on the government’s social distancing rules and “roadmap” before we plan a new date. Late June, early July seems to be the earliest at the moment. There is no rush to make any appointments or decisions whilst we are in this state of limbo. It is not at all obvious that senior rugby will even start again in September. Given the physicality of our sport it seems likely to be one of the last sports to restart at grassroots level as it’s difficult to reconcile scrummaging with people from 50 miles away with social distancing. The good news is that our club, unlike many others, is financially secure and we can look forward to coming together again once the country has worked through this devastating period. Have a great evening if you are still having a mini or family D&D this evening. Please all keep safe and can I, on behalf of all the club, pay tribute to all our members and their families who form part of the ‘frontline’ dealing with this crisis. THANK YOU! Martin
